October Colours

october 2013 calendar

Hello Friends!

October, is here with its
wonderful warm colours.
Ochres and ambers have invaded my palette.

Joyous trees frantically dance
to a drifting autumn hail,
sprinkling wispy leaves on street floors
with intense burnt yellows
and dark, deep reds.

Cool afternoons ask for
socks pulled up to my knees,
with cups of smokey flavoured brews,
and ovens scented with sweet galettes
of foraged berries and figs.

I hope Autumn, has been as beautiful for you too!

p.s. I've started something NEW! Because I love painting with food and sculpting
with cake, as much as much as I do with watercolours and paint.

"Mariana", Gouache on Paper 42.0 x 29.7 mm

This is my sweet Niece Mariana.
Sweet, delicate baby who is blooming
into a beautiful young lady.
A talker and a listener,
patient, gracious, serene,
always ready to help.

When we get talking, it is endless.
Threads of continuous words,
unravel from within her,
like it couldn't wait any longer to get out.

And I love that about her.
Precious gem of a child...

stone street and houses in Badamalos

I can't wait to tell you
about Portugal's wonder,
her winding trails,
and her charming ways.

We were tucked away, deep,
in a quaint stone village
for the first few days,
within Guarda's undulating hills.
With views extending as far as
the eye could see.

Badamalos, has that quality,
of slowing you right down,
encasing you within it's
warmed summer stone walls.

We spent precious family moments,
laughing, playing, jumping in the Coa river.
We ate and sang at the top of our voices,
danced, by the candle light
until the skies were dotted with stars.

We woke up early and slept late,
trailed up to hidden, peaceful, spots.
Sat on boulders, at hill tops,
and raised our arms to empty skies.
