On Colour, The Summer Kind

poppy against old wall

Lately I find summer colours,
delicate shades of peach and greeny blues,
greys with pink undertones.

I see brightly coloured petals blooming,
still crinkled, as if recently awoken
from their tightly encased buds.

I see translucent layers of fallen petals,
densely covering rigid bare floors,
tiny branches intertwining,
negotiating a space of their own.
I see invading bushes reclaiming bricked walls.

I feel summer in my bones...
